HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-3068365 ELECTRICAL CODE:-AM ENDM ENT ORDINANCE NO. 96-3068 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY OF PLAINVlEW CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 10, AMENDING SECTION 10-41, 10-66, 10-82, 10-83, 10-121 AND 10-131; CUMULATIVENESS CLAUSE; CONFLICTS CLAUSE; SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The City of Plainviews Board of Electrical Examiners have reviewed Chapter 10 of the City of Plainview Code of Ordinances, Electricity and; WHEREAS, The Board of Electrical Examiners have made recommendations for the following Changes: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Plainview, Texas that: SECTION I Article III, Sec.10-41: (b) The Board of Electrical Examiners shall consist of seven (7) members as follows: two (2) master electricians, two (2) journeyman electricians(or one (1) service representative from the local electrical utility company, currently known as Southwestern Public Service Co.), one (1) member who is an employee of Southwestern Public Service Co., and two other members who, in the opinion of the Mayor and City Council, are qualified through education and practical experience to perform the duties of an electrical examiner. There will also be appointed two (2) alternates who will be called to serve on the Board in the event a regular member cannot be present. These alternates shall be chosen from the same criteria as outlined for regular members of the Board of Electrical Examiners. Article IV, Sec. 10-66 Elevator electrician's Licenses shall be deleted from Chapter 10 of the City of Plainview Code of Ordinances. Sec. 10-82: Scope of apprentice electrician license (b) City apprentice work permit. Anyone desiring to do work as an I of 4 366 apprentice electrician within the city shall register with the electrical inspector and obtain from such office an apprentice work permit. Such permits shall expire on the thirty-first (31) day of December of each calendar year, and may be renewed by: application 'thereaffer to the electrical inspector and payment of a five. dollar ($5.00) renewal fee. Sec.10-83: Scope of elevator electrician license. Shall be deleted from Chapter 10 of the City of Plainview Code of Ordinances. Article VI. Sec. 10-121 Standard: National Electrical Code incorporated by reference All installation hereafter installed within the corporate limits of the City of Plainview shall be done in first class workmanlike manner in accordance with the 1996 Edition of the National Electrical Code, as adopted by the National Fire Protection Association, and said National Electrical Code is made a part of this chapter, with the additions and deviations therefrom contained in this Code. Sec. 10-131: Wiring encased in metal racewavs; where required. EXCEPTION NO. 1: Schedule 40 or 80 PVC may be used as an underground conduit when buried in the earth at a minimum depth of eighteen (18") measured from the top of the conduit (1987 NEC 300-5). PVC shall not be used as a general raceway in open air. EXCEPTION NO. 2: Shall be deleted from Chapter 10 of the City of Plainview, Code of Ordinances. SECTION II Provisions of the ordinance are cumulative and nothing herein shall prevent, alter, or diminish the applicability or enforcement of other ordinances restricting, regulating or governing the subject matter herein. SECTION III All ordinances or portions of any ordinance of the .City of Plainview, Texas in 2 of 4 367 conflict herewith, are hereby amended to conform with the provisions hereof. SECTION IV Should any section, subsection, or any portion hereof be deemed invalid for any reason, such holding shall not render or invalidate any other section, subsection, sentence, provision, clause, phrase, or word severable therefrom and the same shall be deemed severable for this purpose. SECTION V This ordinance shall be of full force and effect upon its passage and publication as required by law. PASSED AND APPROVED this the £/. day of /Th~,J-, ,1995.
