Other members present were Carolyn ~righ~,~Jack Burton, and Pat Stoner. ~~ Staff present: Jim Sewell, Building Inspector and Mike McDonough, Director of Municipal Services. Visitors present were Jackie Whitaker, Charles Smith, Fred Shipman, H.W. Phillips, Karen Phillips, Mrs. H.W. Phillips and Charlie Womble. B.A. CASE NO. 1039 Request of Jackie C. Whitaker for a variance to construct a storage building in the required side and rear yard in a R-2 (Single-Family Residential) Zoning District, being Lot 1, Block 76, of the Highland Addition and located at 1507 Kokomo. The case was presented by Mr. Sewell. He stated the construction on the building had already started prior to the application of a variance. Mr. Sewell also stated the building was 12'x 16' in size and would be within 18" of the side property line and 24" of the rear property line. Two letters in favor of the variance were presented by Mr. Sewell. No letters of opposition were received. Mr. Whitaker stated he was unaware of the zoning requirement, prior to the visit of the Building InspectOr. He further stated the building was to be used only for storage. After a short discussion by the Board, Ms. Warrick made a motion, seconded by Mr. Burton, to grant the request. Motion carried unanimously. B.A. CASE NO. 1040 Request of Charles Smith for a variance to construct additional living area to a residence within the required side and rear yards in a R-1 (Single-Family Residential) Zoning District being Lot 11, Block 7, Brock Addition, Unit No. 2, Phenix Subdivision and located at 1400 Garland Street. The case was presented to the Board by Mr. Sewell. He stated Mr. Smith was requesting a variance for a permit to construct a work room. The addition would be within 15' of the rear property line and 8 1/2' of the side property line. Two letters of approval were presented to the Board with no letter of opposition. Mr. Smith stated that the face of the addition would match the existing building as closely as possible in an effort to retain or improve property value. After a discussion by the Board members, Mr. Burton made a motion, seconded by Ms. Warrick, to approve the request as submitted. Motion carried unanimously. B.A. CASE NO. 1041 Request of Fred Shipman for a variance to construct an open carport in the required front and side yards in a R-1 (Single-Family Residential) Zoning District being Lot 12, Block 2, Phenix Subdivision and located at 810 Zephyr Street. The request was presented to the Board by Mr. Sewell. Four letters of reply in favor of the variance were presented to the Board. The Board briefly discussed the construction with Mr. Shipman. After a brief discussion by the Board, Ms. Warrick made a motion to approve the request. Motion was seconded by Ms. Stoner and carried unanimously. B.A. CASE NO. 1042 A request of H,W. Phillips for a variance to construct an open carport in the required side yard in a R-1 (Single-Family Residential) Zoning District, being Lot 6, Block 3, Cain-Cooper Subdivision and located at 1301 Zephyr Street. The case was presented to the Board by Mr. Sewell. of reply in favor of the request were presented. reply in opposition were received. Three letters No letters of Mr. Phillips stated the carport will be for a fifth wheel trailer and will be 12' wide and 32' long. After a brief discussion by the Board, Mr. Burton made a motion seconded by Ms~ Warrick to approve the variance. Motion carried unanimously.
