7:30 P.M. Public Hearing, City Hall
The Board of Adjustment met in regular session with Chairman Jack
Burton presiding. Other members present were Pat Stoner, John
Oathout, Randy Ballinger, Rebecca Escalante and Lynn Davis.
Mike McDonough, Director of Municipal Services and Rolando Vela,
Administrative Assistant were staff members meeting with the
Board.
Visitors present were Fred Bechtold, Susan Bechtold and Ed
Thornton.
B. A. CASE NO. 1077:
Request of Marvin Churchwell for a variance to construct an open
metal carport in the required side yard in a R-2 (Single-Family
Residential) Zoning District, being the North 40 feet of Lot 11
and the South 25 feet of Lot 12, Block 36, Highland Addition and
located at 1208 Kokomo Street.
Mike McDonough introduced the request to the Board. He explained
that Mr. Chruchwell was proposing to construct an open metal
carport adjacent to his house. According to a site plan
furnished by Mr. Churchwell's representative, the proposed
carport would be 3 feet from the side property line. The carport
would be located immediately adjacent to the South of an existing
residence and would not extend into the required front yard. By
means of overhead projection, Mr. McDonough reviewed the location
of the property in question and the proposed site plan. A video
of the proposed site as well as the surrounding area was
presented. 6 letters of reply in favor of the' proposal were
presented to the Board. No letters of reply in objection had
been received.
Fred Bechtold of Eb-Tx represented Mr. Churchwell and explained
that the proposed carport would be of the type that his company
constructed. He explained that the carport would be in front of
an existing garage and would protect the Churchwell vehicles
adjacent to the house. Also the location of the carport would be
of benefit to Mr. Chruchwell as he is an invalid and it will be
much easier to get from the house to the carport in a wheelchair
than it was into a small existing garage.

With no other individuals desiring to speak and after a brief
discussion, John Oathout moved, seconded by Randy Ballinger to
grant the request to erect an open metal carport within the side
yard to within 2 feet of the side property line. The motion
carried unanimously.
With no other business pending, John Oathout moved, seconded by
Rebecca Escalante to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried
unanimously and meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
