ORDINANCE NO. $9-2802
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10, OF THE PLAINVIEW
CITY CODE, ENTITLED,. "FIRE PROTECTION AND
_PREVENTION"; PROVIDING FOR AMENDMENT. THERETO,
SECTION 10-6 ENTITLED "OFFICE OF FIRE CHIEF";
PROVIDING FOR AN OFFICE OF DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC
SAFETY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF
THIS ORDINANCE.
WHEREAS, the Mayor, City Council and City Administration have
conducted extensive studies addressing the feasibility far public
safety consolidation; and
WHEREAS, it is hereby found by Mayor and City Council that
consolidated public safety for the City of Plainview will improve
service delivery for Police, Fire, and. EMS Services and be in the
best interest of the City of Plainview.; and
.WHEREAS, the first step towards the creation of a
consolidated public safety unit for the City of Plainview is the
creation of an Office of Public Safety..

NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT ORDAINED that Section 10-6 of the
Plainview City Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
:Section 1. Section 10-6. Office of Director of Public.
Safety
The office of Director of Public :Safety is hereby created
and established for the City. The Director of Public
Safety shall be the Chief of the Fire and Police Department
of the City. -The Director will establish an appropriate
.hierarchy. of supervision to operate these departments. The
Fire Department. of the City shall be under his supervision
and all members of the Fire Department except as otherwise
prescribed herein shall. be subject to the orders and
supervision of the Director of Public Safety.
The Director of Public Safety shall be appointed by the
City Manager.
Section 2. Should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause,
phrase, or word of this ordinance be declared unconstitutional or
invalid. for any purpose, the remainder of this ordinance shall
not be effected.

Section 3. This ordinance shall become effective upon. its
lawful passage.
