HomeMy WebLinkAbout05.11.15 Main Street MinutesMain Street Board Meeting 5-11-2015 Minutes The Main Street Program Coordinating Board met Monday, May 11, 2015 in the City Council Chambers. The meeting was called to order by Main Street Director Melinda Brown at 12:10pm. Board members in attendance were as follows: Diane Book, Paul Drager, Chris LeFevre, Beverly McCaskill, Debbie McPherson, Janice Payne, Phillip Masso, and Diane Book. Also in attendance was Susan Blackerby, Melinda Brown, Teressa King and members of the Downtown Association Board Deliece Harrison, Phyllis Wall, Kay Phillip and Jeannie Wall. Phillip began the meeting with a report of the Wine Walk on May 8th. It had approximately 100 people in attendance. Paul informed Board Members that the ladies from the Dairy Association decided to cancel the bank on the July 3rd festivities and would go with the symphony at the court House. Phyllis announced an event to be held at The Brew on Saturday, Mayl6th called PawTy - proceeds will go to stock the animal shelter with needed supplies. Beverly wants the Downtown Association to give a list of merchant members and if it would be possible to reenact the window stickers indicating those businesses that are members of the Downtown Association. Beverly also asked for a reimbursement of $200 for booking the Steve Burris concert on 2nd Friday, June 12th. Motion made, seconded and passed. Report for the Task Force Committee was presented by Beverly on changing the variance code for alcohol served downtown. The final copy of the questionnaire is corrected and completed and copies were handed to members to look over. Notices about the survey will be through the Plainview website, the Daily Herald, the local radio station. Voting will mostly be electronic through the website, some by written voting at the Chamber and Main Street office. Janice moved to accept the updated survey questionnaire as presented and Phil seconded the motion. Motion passed. April minutes were out for members to read and check over - Beverly had one correction on a name change for one of her committee members from Christy Pendergrast to Trixie Pendergrast. Phil made the motion to accept the minutes with the correction. Debbie seconded it and it passed. Hot Grants had two applications to be presented - Red White Moo requested $750 for use on July 3rd and Plainview Juneteenth Celebration requested an unspecified amount to be used for food and games. Beverly mentioned that Juneteenth did not request an amount and they were not utilizing the intended usage of these funds for their event. Paul suggested that they resubmit the application in the correct form of request. Phillip moved to accept the application from Red, White & Moo. Janice seconded and it passed. Melinda reported on a previous application from Tender Hands. They paid their outstanding bill but also cut off utilities for their building. Paul moved while Beverly seconded the motion to deny this request of funds as they did not meet the qualification. Motion passed. Organization Committee report was given by Melinda. The Main Street Open House will be held on June 11th, 5-6:30 P.M. This will coincide with Business After Hours by the Chamber at the Fair Theater where the Main Street office is located. There will be food, kid's activities, office opened, door prizes, and two non -profits with displays. Chamber of Commerce will do the mail out for the event. Economic Restructuring is reported by Phil. Brian O'Connor for Texas Historical Commission visited with Phil, City Council and several other downtown business owner on facets of restructuring. Phil talked to two business owners -Stephanie Boedecker from Radiant Lily and Andrea Glenn from The Rusty Rose to work with him. It was also suggested that he ask Rick Davis from the Blue Door to be on the same committee. Phil talked with the Daily Herald about an advertising concept using a full page ad with 10 business owners of the downtown area one of which is spotlighted - they split the cost - rotate the spot highlighting a business until each business has been featured. It was decided to research this idea for the specific details. Promotion Committee by Melinda was working on a variety of business participants for the Parade. She reminded us that we will need man power to help with the Parade. Design Committee report given by Janice. She reported that a landscape architect from Texas Tech will come on Tuesday, May 12 at 1:30. Planters will be placed on the main corners of Broadway -the committee wants to "dress up" the planters possibly using cinder blocks and cedar panels. The curbs will soon be compliant with ADA. Teressa suggested doing one block a year. Social Media Update was given by Melinda on the posts. The newsletter reaches about 257 and the Merchant Monday reaches 1200-1500 a week.
