HomeMy WebLinkAbout06.01.2015 Main Street MinutesMain Street Board Meeting 6-01-2015 Minutes The Main Street Program Coordinating Board met Monday, June 1, 2015 in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. Chris LeFevre called the meeting to order at 12:05 P.M. Board members in attendance is as follows: Chris LeFevre, Paul Drager, Beverly McCaskill, Janice Payne, Debbie McPherson, Frances Barrera, Michael Graves, and Diane Book. Also in attendance was Melinda Brown, Teressa King, and Susan Blackerby. The minutes of the May 11, 2015 was read over by each member. Paul made the motion to accept the minutes as read and Beverly seconded the motion. The motion passed. The swearing in of Board member Michael Graves was put off until the next meeting due to Belinda not present in the building at the time. Juneteenth of Plainview resubmitted their application to Hot Grants. The motion to accept the request of $750 was made by Paul and seconded by Frances. The motion passed. Melinda reminded the Board of the Open House for the Main Street Program in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours on Thursday, June 11, 5-6:30 P.M. at the Fair Theater. The Main Street office is housed in the Theater. She will have displays, food, kids activities, door prizes for downtown property owners and for attending guests. The Chamber will mail invitations to Chamber members and Melinda will mail to non -Chamber members. Beverly gave the update on Task Force committee. Andrew was to have the questionnaire of changing the variance code on alcohol served in the downtown district by the end of this day, June 1st. It will be on Survey Monkey on the City website for 30 days. It will also be on KKYN radio station, in the Plainview Daily Herald under This N That. A town meeting will be held two times: on Tuesday, June 9th in the Library Basement and on the 25th at Grumpy's. Both meeting times will be held 6-7:30 P.M. Computers will be set up at both locations for voting for or against the code. Every vote must be submitted with the name and address of the voter and every vote must be at least 18 years old. Paul felt like there should be an option of voting besides the computers. Beverly will see that voting by paper will be available at the library, Grumpy's and the Chamber of Commerce. Paul reported that the Parade will begin at 5 P.M. On July 3rd. The Board members need to be at Centennial Bank parking lot by 4:00 to assist in organizing entrants in the Parade. Melinda has had two groups to call for entry to the Parade. She will also use previous lists for contacting groups to enter. Melinda will order new T Shirts with the Main Street logo for Board member volunteers. Janice visited with Dr. Charles Klein, Associate Professor of Texas Tech University of the Department of Landscape Architecture. He suggested using 4th year students of this department to help working on the plans for the Downtown landscape designs. He gave Janice a list of desirable trees proven to be drought resistant to use in this project. She also would like to see the use of banners for non -profits events hung on light poles. Melinda reported she saw of 966 views on the Main Street Facebook page. At the conclusion of committee reports, Chris adjourned the meeting at 12.50 P.M. Respectively submitted, Diane Book
