UML Advisory Board meetnig was attended by board members, Geoff
Wells, Pat Kelly and Rita Cronholm. Also attending were: Muff London,
Director of Community Development for the City of Plainview ; Ruth
Gooch, president of Freinds of UML ; Beth McBeth, president of Hi -
Plains Genealogical Society, Lucile Davis, WTLS lay representative,
Minnie Ruth Rigler, Literacy coordinator, and John Sigwald, Librarian
John introduced all present.
October meeting was not held.
John told those present that the new REFERENCE computer system is
set up - changes have been made with the help of many people. Programs
are now all Reference oriented. Programs on the system at this time are:
Facts on File, Monarch Notes, Periodical Abstracts, History of the World,
Personal Medical Advisor and Bookshelf (includes dictionary, thesaurus,
Quotations, etc.) A Master Search Bible program is ordered and should
be right away. Jack Ritchey built the cage around the table that covers
the CD tower and CPUs. Hershel Henderson was paid to build the table
on which the computer sit in that area. Money (10G per sheet) from the
printer there is going to the Friends of UML. This area should be
complete soon.
John explained that new circulation software will be out in January, 1994.
the necessary new hardware is in place. Wayne Snelling and David McPherson
have helped, along with others, in getting all the necessary hardware and
making changes.
John asked the Board's opinion regardng $10. out -of -county charge for cards
if the individual lives out of the county (Hale), but works here. The
Board members present indicated that a person must live in Hale County and
pay property taxes here to qualify for the "free" card.
The elevator is in use!!!
Reference shelving is ordered and hopefully will be and installed very soon.
We have a new shelf for the Book/Cassettes and about 200 more book/cassettes
have been donated to our collection.
John told that Hastings is taking donations for the Literacy program and the
company matches all donations made in the local store.
John brought up a recent incident in which a patron returned books without
their dust jackets. The dust jackets were finally returned. The question of
what to charge in cases like this was discussed. A policy needs to be determined.
at this time, John will handle at his discretion.
The meeting was adjourned to the EIC center in the Reference section so that
all present could see the new system at work.
