HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-16-1992 Library Board MinutesNovember 16, 1992 4:00 p.m. UNGER MEMORIAL LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD Meeting was called to order by Librarian John Sigwald. Members present were : Geoff Wells, Albert Torres and Pat Kelly. Also present were WTLS lay representative Lucile Davis, Friends of UML present Ruth Gooch, Directory of Community Services Diane Groh and Hi -Plains Genealogy president Donna Sarchet. John showed those present the recent picture of the mermaid by Candace Keller that was in the current issue of American Library magazine. John reminded all present of the semi-annual Blood Drive at the library on November 23, 1992 from 2-6 p.m. Literacy Center will have open house November 17, 1992 from 5-7 p.m. John promised policy manual soon. Copies ofthe UML annual report were given to those present. John told them last year's circulation was 92,000 and total patrons 90,000. Copies of report John did in response to a request from Jim Jeffers about options for relocating services to first floor. Discussion followed with all present stating they could not see how it could be done. John explained why he feels the present arrangement is best and that access is problem. Diane Groh stated that in the next two Council meetings a motion should be in the agenda for a budget amendment to allow a contract be let for an elevator in the Library. Donna Sarchet expressed thanks to the 1967 Library Board for having the foresight to have the original elevator shaft put in, to Dwain Dodson and Mary Virginia Kirchhoff for being staunch library advocates and to Diane Groh for her help in explaining the workings of the City. John stated the the computers are all in place and most patrons are using them. All seen to have heavy usage, especially after school and evenings. Genealogy members obtained discarded maps and map cabinets from Texas Tech. These are in the Genealogy collection. Also Ruth Gooch stated that an individual has donated a 50 -state set of road maps that are now available in Genealogy section. Donna Sarchet asked for a future agenda item to explore the possibility of extending summer hours. It was agreed that this would be looked into. Meeting was adjourned.
