HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-10-1992 Library Board MinutesMarch 10, 1992 4:00 p.m. Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board meeting was called to order by Librarian John Sigwald. Members present were: Albert Torres, Pat Kelly, Treva James and Rita Cronholm. John explained possibilities of elevator for Library (location, types, etc.). He said we should be getting an elevator but no definite information at this time. John asked for nominations for officers of the Board. Treva nominated Geoff Wells as president and Pat Kelly as vice-president. Albert seconded the motions. Rita moved that they be elected by acclamation. Albert seconded this motion and John announced the new officers. John advised the Board on a proposed change in out -of -county borrowers fees from $1 annual fee to $10 annual fee to bring these borrowers up to a level of support of Plainview tax -paying residents. He proposed that this change become effective on April 1, 1992. The Board unanimously approved this policy change. Rita Cronholm asked for discussion regarding changing meetings of the Board to Mondays at 4 p.m. After discussion, it was decided to leave the meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. John showed Board members a copy of the February 1992 American Library magazine with a photo from the Unger Library blood drive. John provided copies of articles on the Richard Kriemer case in New Jersey (American Library, January 1992; Lubbock A -J, 3/10/92; and Time magazine, 3/9/92) for the board to read. He explained the case which involved patron behavior and Library board policy regarding such. John showed the Board copies of new sex education books that the Library has purchased for the juvenile section. Members of the Board looked at these and agreed they should be in the juvenile non-fiction section. Those books are : Being Born (Kitzinger), How Babies Are Made (Andry), and Reproduction to Birth (Twist). Another book, Your New Potty (Joanna Cole) will go into the EASY -Picture Book section. Each Board member was given a copy of the Unger Memorial Library Fiscal Report for 1991. John announced the Friends of the Library meeting to be held on Tuesday, March 17, 1992. The Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held in the Library basement on March 27-28, 1992. John told the Board that the Genealogy group has asked for some funds to cover part of the expense of the recent purchase of map cabinets and -CD's for census indexes. He suggested that part of the money from this year's Book Sale go to the Genealogists for that purpose. John stated that he should have next year's proposed budget by the April meeting.
