HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-14-1992 Library Board MinutesUnger Memorial Library Advisory Board, Tuesday, January 14, 1992 The Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board was called to order by Librarian, John Sigwald at 4:30 p.m. Those present were: John Sigwald - Librarian Geoff Wells - Board Member Albert Torres - Board Member Pat Kelly - Board Member Rita Cronholm - Board Member Sherry Akin - Past Board Member John present to Sherry Akin a plaque of appreciation for her many years of faithful service to the library. Sherry is retiring after 8 years of service on the board. John also indicated that the City Council would be making new board appointments tonight at the City Council meeting. Up for reappointment was Geoff Wells and Pat Kelly, with the appointment of a new board member, Treva James. Librarian, John Sigwald, reported that he would be attending the Mid Winter conference in San Antonio next week -end for the American Library Association, on which he serves on two committees. John reviewed with the board the activities associated with the conference. The personal of the library is continuing to clean up the data base and are making it must easier for the people using the computer to find requested material. The board had previously recommended the changing from $1.00 to $10.00 charge to out of county residents for library cards. Mr Jeffers, City Manager, had asked this be tabled until the City had hired their supervisor who would be responsible for approval and submitting this recommendation to the City Council. John wanted to make sure the board still wished to make this change in charges for out of county residents. The board said they were still in favor of this action and to act on the boards previous vote. John is now reading to the third grade class at Highland school and will begin reading to the Houston school class. He said that the response from the students have been very positive. The meeting was adjourn at 5:00 with no other business.
