The book The Satanic Bible had received challenges from Roseann Porter, Nell Hall and Lana Jerry. John stated that the book had been "in and out" of our library for the past 15 years or so. He also cited our policy "Free Access to Libraries For Minors" and reviewed our Collection Policy. When a book is challenged in this manner, the board has two options, according to our collection policy. These options are to retain or remove. Susan Wilson suggested that the book be reshelved into the reference section, so as to keep the book available to the public, yet keep it from circulating. John reminded us that this book is not a reference book, but that it could be placed in the reference section of the library. If the Board makes this recommendation, and it is agreed upon, John stated the Collection Policy must be revised. John stated the goals of the public library. Sherry Akin Made a motion to leave the book,on the shelf where it is currently kept. Motion seconded by Tony Holloway. Vote followed, motion passed. City Manager Jim Jeffers voiced his concern about the book and felt that this problem might come before the City Council. Mr. Jeffers will advise persons who have complaints about the book to go to the library and speak to John. John stated that the book could be reviewed again at a later date if the public so desires. Meeting adjourned 6:15 p.m. Susan Wilson, Secretary
