August 7, 1978
The regular meeting of the Unger Memorial Library Advisory Committee was
called to order at 7:10 P.M., Monday, August 7, 1978, in the Librarian's
Office by Mrs. Ruby Curry, Vice -President. Present were Susan LaFont, Malcolm
Tisdel, and Judy Smith, Librarian. Also present was Charles Bechtold.
The minutes of the June 26, 1978, meeting were approved as presented. The
Librarian's Reports for June and July were presented as was a report on the
Summer Program.
Miss Smith reported that Mrs. Igo had determined that direct state and federal
grants are still available but are difficult to receive and administer. She
also presented a report on the benefits of membership in the West Texas Library
System. She will send copies of both reports to Norman Huggins.
Miss Smith reported that Mrs. Nancy Shackleford wanted the Library to sponsor
a Town Hall Meeting September 12 in preparation for the Governor's Conference
on Libraries to be held in Austin in November. The Committee authorized Mrs.
Igo and Miss Smith to investigate the possibility of the Library's partici-
pation with other sponsoring organizations and to decide whether or not the
Library would help with the sponsorship of a Town Hall Meeting.
Mr. Tisdel reported that he had been unable to contact the City Attorney to
determine the feasibility of prosecuting patrons with long over -due materials.
He stated that, in his opinion, such prosecution would require a city ordi-
nance. Miss Smith was instructed to draft a letter to the City Council
requesting an ordinance to allow the prosecution of borrowers with long over-
due materials. The Committee will consider the letter at its September meeting.
The Committee's regular meeting for September was scheduled for September fl.
The Meeting was adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
