June 26, 1978
The regular meeting of the Unger Memorial Library Advisory Committee was called
to order by Mrs. Merwyn Igo, President, at 7 P.M. Monday, June 26, 1978, in the
Library Conference Room. Committee members present were Ruby Curry, Malcolm
Tisdel, Lloyd Woods, and Judy Smith, Librarian. Others present were Medlin
Carpenter, Norman Huggins, Weldon Gregg, Charles Bechtold, and Chuck Martin.
The minutes of the May 1, 1978, meeting were approved as presented. The Li-
brarian's Report for May was presented. Also presented was a report on the
Library's summer programs.
The Committee discussed the possible imposition of user fees. Miss Smith read
a letter from Patricia Smith from the Texas State Library which stated that the
imposition of general user fees would make Unger Library ineligible for Library
System membership. Miss Smith will prepare a report on the benefits of Library
System membership for presentation at the August meeting. Mrs. Igo will check
into the possibility of the Library's receiving direct grants from the state or
federal governments. Weldon Gregg spoke against the imposition of general user
fees.
Mr. Tisdel moved and Mrs. Curry seconded that the below procedure for housing
materials placed on Restricted Access be adopted. Motion passed.
RESTRICTED ACCESS PROCEDURE
Materials placed on Restricted Access will be kept at the
Circulation Desk where they will be available upon request
to adult patrons only. The following notation will be
placed on the catalog cards of each item placed on Restricted
Access: "Please ask for this book (record, etc.) at the
Circulation Desk".
Mr. Woods requested that Mr. Tisdel c rsuit the City Attorney to detetmine the
feasibility of filing charges against borrowers with long over -due materials.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
