October 8, 2013
Present were Board members Kevin Sweeney, Stephanie James, and Kenna
Hatch. Also present was Linda Shipp, Genealogical Society President, and
Assistant City Manager Jeffrey Snyder.
John presented the costly situation resulting from the leaking of the roof during
some heavy summer rain storms. The roofing company doing a roofing project is
being held responsible for the majority of the damage. The company is to
reimburse the City for damages with about $20,000 of it going to Unger Memorial
Library to help compensate for materials lost due to the damage.
The 2013-2014 Fiscal budget was not available from City Finance at the time of
this meeting. John told the Board that City departments had been asked to help
keep costs down when presenting requests for the new budget.
An Oklahoma prison's technical training group has digitized all the available
Plainview yearbooks. This was done at no cost to the library.
An Eagle Scout was given a summer project of overseeing some groups taking
photos of headstones in the IOOF section of the Plainview Cemetery. These
photos are being used to update cemetery records on file.
A replacement for Board member David Barrett is still being sought. Any
suggestions may be given to John.
Kevin Sweeney's Board term will be expiring December 31, 2013. Another
member will be needed as his replacement. Kevin was asked to attend the next
Board meeting in February 2014.
John asked for suggested names to complete a library scrapbook project. He
has pictures, newspaper clippings, and other articles about the library which he
has collected for the past thirty years.
John reminded everyone about the upcoming Centennial Celebration for the
Plainview Public Library on Thursday, October 17.
