HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-12-2010 Library Board MinutesLibrary Board Meeting October 12, 2010 Members present were Kim Horne, Kevin Sweeney, and Kenna Hatch. Also present was WTLS Lay Representative Lucile Davis. John mentioned that the overseeing of the energy efficiency grant for city buildings, including the library, has been turned over to the new Assistant City Manager, Jeffrey Snyder. After the completion of the energy updates, the library will plan on having its 50th anniversary celebration. John shared that the Summer Reading Club in June went well. Next summer the plans are to schedule programs for Monday/Wednesday/Fridays. It is also possible that Tuesday/Thursdays may include a reading hour for the community to come to the library for a special reading session. Everyone was encouraged to meet the library's newest staff member, Jerry Serrano. The 2010-2011 budget will be about the same as the previous year. The Loan Star Grant will decrease from about $9,000 to about $7,000. Part of the grant monies will be spent on building the juvenile books on CD collection. Also, several new DVDs, books, and up-to-date nonfiction materials are being purchased. Weeding of the nonfiction section will soon be taking place to make room for the newer books. John explained that he and Debbie Carlton will be attending a meeting in Oklahoma on October 18th and 19th to receive 500 bilingual (Spanish/English) books for the children's collection from the Priddy Trust. This project is called Amo Leer. John told those present that the City of Plainview has hired designers to create a city- wide web site which will be available in January 2011. The next meeting is scheduled for February. Dismissal was at 4:40.
