Also present were Louise Thompson, Genealogy President, and Lucile Davis, WTLS Lay Representative. John asked Sharon Morgan (Library Board President) if she would be able to attend a seminar for the Melinda Gates Foundation with him on November 18th and 19th in San Antonio. The foundation is working on getting better broadband in libraries. John went over the materials contained in the last two newsletters. John mentioned some of the projects that have been taking place: • heavy-duty mats and chairs with casters for the computer area. John explained the need for these due to the inability to remove the carpet and replace it because of asbestos in the tiles underneath. • new microfilm reader and all the features it allows a patron to do • repairs of the exterior sidewalk and the stairwell wall where water from the exterior leaked inside and caused damage • new Eco -Smart disc cleaner to replace the older, more labor-intensive model John reported that the cemetery records were now up-to-date with the assistance of volunteer Barbara Almon. The library would now be working on getting the newspapers we have on microfilm digitized. John reminded those present of the library's upcoming 50th anniversary in 2010. Kim Horne asked if the repairs to the windows on the north and east sides of the building are still in the plans and if this project would qualify for a tax break from the federal government like other green projects. John mentioned that this project is on the agenda to be completed, and that the City Manager, Greg Ingham, had asked him to wait on scheduling these repairs in order to provide him time to find out if these repairs would qualify to be covered through federal assistance. John also announced that the library needed to have some rewiring done due to the age of the old wiring which is causing some problems with the lights in the main area. The next meeting was tentatively scheduled for February 9, 2010, at 4:00. Dismissal: 5:00 pm
