HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-09-2003 Library Board MinutesDecember 9, 2003 UML Basement 4 pm Advisory Board of UML met with the following in attendance: President David Isaacson, Vice -President Maisie Jones, Board members Barbara Green and Caroline Kopp, Genealogy President Theresa Dunlap, Friends of UML President Marsha Birdsong, Director of Community Development for the City of Plainview John Castro and Librarian John Sigwald. A letter from Travis Hart dated Sept. 10, 2003 was read and discussed. A response letter from Mac Thornberry to Marion Anderson was read and discussed. Follow-up discussion on decision of no filters on Internet computers in UML was held. Copies are letters mentioned above are attached. New sign-up policy for Internet computers was presented and discussed. Copy is attached. John Sigwald told those present that he is to be on two (2) American Library Assn. Committees with his terms beginning In mid -winter. He is to be on the YALSA committee for 2 years. It deals with Young Adult dvds and videos. He is also to on the ALSC committee—most of the work on this will be done electronically. Due to these committee appointments John will need to attend ALA meetings - Summer and Mid -Winter. John also explained that Rebecca and Sue are planning to attend the TLA conference in March in San Antonio. Discussion was held regarding problems in UML with cell phone usage. Board suggested signs on front entry asking that cell phones be turned off when entering and as they leave another sign reminding them to turn the cell phones back on. John told those present about the UML current Lone Star Library Grant of $3200. Plans are to use this money to purchase a color laser jet printer 11x17 for banners, posters, etc. This would be available for patrons to use. CDWG has this listed for $3549 at the present time (See attached) UML Advisory Board will need to elect officers at the next Board meeting. Maisie Jones and Barbara Green were presented plaques for their service on the UML Board for the last 8 years. They have served two 4 -year terms and cannot continue to serve under City of Plainview term limit policy. John asked for suggestions for two new Board members. Meeting was adjourned.
