Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board met in the basement of the library with
the following attending: Board President David Isaacson, Board members
Caroline Kopp and Barbara Green, WTLS lay representative Lucile Davis, Friends
of UML President Mary Ann McWilliams, Literacy Coordinator Phyllis Wall and
Librarian John Sigwald.
John talked about attending Texas Library Association Annual Conference April
1-4 in Houston. Approx. 7000 people were in attendance at the conference.
There were a variety of programs and speakers including Bill Cosby.
John Sigwald explained that the library is now receiving Internet service
through Cox Communications. Texasonline's DSL provider took bankruptcy and
we had to find an alternate provider.
John discussed revisions of the Internet Policy for UML. Installation of CD -Rs on
each computer will enable patrons to use both CDs and floppies for temporary
usage. New security software has been installed. It allows staff to restart
computer and do away with anything patron has done and reset computer to
original settings. This capability makes some of the old policy unnecessary.
John Sigwald read changes to be made. David Isaacson made a motion that
they be accepted. Caroline Kopp seconded the motion. Motion carried by
acclamation.
FY 2003-2004 library budget is being worked on at this time. Elizabeth Regner
is working with John on this. Estimates are being obtained for extensive
lighting changes to be made and for a new heating/air conditioning system to
replace the 35 -year-old present system. These would be capital outlay items if
ok'd . John said he is trying to keep the status quo for various line items.
Lettering for signage for the outside of the library building is being studied. This
project will be funded= with a Loan Star (State govt), Grant.
John has been told to find a`collection agency to attempt to collect monies for
overdue materials belonging to the Library.
John and Gina are planning to attend ALA Conference in Toronto in June. This
will be a joint meeting of American Library Association and Canadian Library
Association. This is the first joint meeting in John's career.
Meeting was adjourned.
