HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-10-2002 Library Board MinutesSeptember 10, 2002 4 p.m. The UML Advisory Board met in the basement of the Library with the following in attendance: Board members David Isaacson, Maisie Jones, Caroline Kopp and Barbara Green; Friends of UML president Mary Ann McWilliams; Hi -Plains Genealogical Society president Theresa Dunlap; WTLS lay representative Lucile Davis and Librarian John Sigwald. John said Sherie Wells (alternate WTLS lay representative) is improving. Stella Aday will be starting to work 09/11/02 as the new library aide. John and Rainer Sigwald attended ALA Conference in Atlanta, GA in June. John is on the Siebert Award committee. They both had an enjoyable time. Texas Reading Club held at the library daily in June had a total attendance of approximately 1500. Board members were told of the various programs. John handed out the new Information Sheet for UML. (see attached) It is being given to all new library card applicants. There are also some at City Hall and the Plainview Chamber of Commerce. John explained the Neighborhood Children's Information Protection Act. He explained that the five points added to the UML Internet Policy on June 28, 2002 was to keep the library eligible for eRate (discounted telecommunications). The addition of these five points was verbally passed in June. Maisie Jones made the motion the Board formally accept the UML Internet Policy as it is now written. David Isaacson seconded the motion. Motion passed on show of hands. John told the Board about the current library project regarding cemetery records and obituaries being made available online at the Library's website. There was an article in the Plainview Herald earlier in the summer. This is an ongoing project. Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2002. Meeting was adjourned.
