John Sigwald gave those present February newsletters with color photos. Right now, this is taking two processes, so only about 50 were done with color this month. John Sigwald welcomed Joy Denton as the newest member of the Advisory Board. Joy Denton, Maisie Jones and Barbara Green (the latter two starting their second 4 year terms) will be officially confirmed by the City Council at tonight's meeting. Joy Denton nominated David Isaacson as President of the Advisory Board and Maisie Jones as Vice -President. Barbara Green seconded the motion. Vote was taken and they were elected. John Sigwald told those present about the $30,000 TIF grant that he recently applied for. This is a non-competitive grant and he believes we should get it. The grant committee can line-out items, but John is hoping that will not happen. The Library will be eligible for discount on phone bills. We will have one trunk line for all computers. We will have 6 Internet/Reference computers. John also is trying to piggy -back our automated catalog system, then can update and put on-line. The Grant requires 3 year maintenance contract. The City has indicated that money will be made available to replace the four adult catalog computers this fiscal year. Texas Book Festival Grant has been applied for. John Sigwald said he is not too optimistic, but applied for money to purchase Caldecott books for a StartHere center for family reading. If we should get this money, the Friends of UML will purchase needed bookcase, sign, etc.) for the center. Grant applied for is $2000. John Sigwald also has applied for a $500. Plainview JSL grant. This would be used to purchase the 2000 ALA Award-winning books. John attended the ALA Midwinter Conference in San Antonio in January 2000. He is on a Library of Congress committee and also had opportunity to meet vendors at Exhibits and hear Jim Hightower speak. He stated that the Library of Congress #s with two digits followed by a hyphen may have to be changed and this is being studied. Unger Library is scheduled to display one of the Cattle Drive cows from May -September. The staff has a quilt of the "Mooey" Decimal System that will be sent in to the Chamber of Commerce cow "art" contest. Friends of UML will have their annual meeting at the Library on Tuesday, February 29, 2000. The Friends are possibly going to purchase new "kids" -size furniture for the Juvenile area. We have one chair in Juvenile area right now as a demo. Meeting was adjourned.
