Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board met in the basement of the
Library with the following in attendance : Board members Geoff Wells,
Barbara Green and David Isaacson; WTLS lay reps. Lucile Davis and
Joy Denton, Friends of UML President Minnie Ruth Rigler, Director
of COmmunity Development for the City of Plainview John Castro, and
Librarian John Sigwald.
John Sigwald thanked Geoff Wells for his work during the last 8 years
on the Board. A plaque acknowledging his terms from 1992-1999
will be given to him at a later date.
John Sigwald told those present that he had a letter from a parent
questioning one of the sites (goAskAlice) on the library's web page.
He responded to her letter and has had no further correspondence
from her. New links are added regularly to the library's web
page and John encouraged all present to let him know of possible
sites that would enhance the page.
John Sigwald showed a copy of "City Views", November 1999 which
had a picture and article on the front page about the UML internet
service. Friends of UML paid for a copy of this to be framed
to be hung in John's office and used at possible programs.
The Library will be getting a new book drop for the inside near the
front door. The one we have does not meet ADA requirements.
Friends of UML recently purchased a baby changing table which is
in the handicapped unisex bathroom. This room is kept locked and
patrons may ask for the key at the Front Desk.
John Sigwald said Gene Whitfill, PISD, is still working on the TIF
grant that could connect UML with WBU, etc. to possibly help
Distance Learning students as well as many others.
John reminded everyone of the UBS blood drive to be held in the
Library on November 24, 1999 from 9 to 6. Picture ID will be
required and names of all medications being taken must be given.
John reported that thus far the UML has had no challenge to Internet
access.
Board member Maisie Jones is in Room #128 at Prairie House and will be
there for about 6-8 weeks following a car wreck in South Carolina in
which she sustained a broken leg.
The next Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 8, 2000.
Board members Maisie Jones and Barbara Green have expressed a desire
to continue on the Board. (Their terms do expire in January.) Joy
Denton has also applied to be on the Board and is expected to be
appointed by the City Council. At the meeting in February, elections
for President and Vice -President will be held.
Meeting was adjourned.
