HomeMy WebLinkAbout12.07.15 Main Street MinutesMain Street Board Meeting 12-07-2015 Minutes The Main Street Program Coordinating Board met on Monday, December 7, 2015 in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. Melinda Brown called the meeting to order at 12:10 P.M. Board members in attendance were Beverly McCaskill, Paul Drager, Debbie McPherson, Janice Payne, Frances Barrera, Dr. Michael Graves, and Diane Book with Melinda Brown, Susan Blackerby, Terresa King, Wendall Dunlap, Kayla McKinna and Melissa also attending the Meeting. The November minutes were reviewed, and Paul made the motion to accept the minutes as is while Beverly second the motion — accepted with no opposition. A HOT Grant application from Tejanos Unite 2013/West Texas Chapter was submitted by Dora S. Sanchez. This event is to be held June 25, 2016. It is a family event with music/entertainment and vendors. Paul moved to approve this event with a grant of $500 while Frances seconded the motion - accepted with no opposition. Organization Committee - four places on the board are to be filled for the new year -2 places are returnees with 2 places to be filled from filed applications. All 4 will begin on January 4, 2016. Also, the downtown map was presented for last changes before going to the printer. Susan needs addresses for businesses and will need to list the retail businesses and the bottom of the map needs to be white to make for easier reading. Janice moved to accept this map and Beverly seconded the motion. It passed. Design Committee -Janice has been working with Homer Marquez on a calendar for scheduled events. There are some issues with the Banner Program -such as cost, prices for advertising/using the banners, colors ,size, one side or two sides and placement. Promotions Committee- the last downtown events were good -the Christmas Parade was the largest ever with a large turnout as well, the Literacy Council's annual story time and Santa visit was down in attendance. Beverly reported a rise in sales this year. 2nd Friday update on the Turkey Trot -everyone was happy with overall results -a good turnout even though the brick streets were hard to run on, Lance did okay selling turkey legs and turkey drawing went well. Holiday Shopping -will need to start planning in July, encourage owners to serve some type of food/beverage, individual businesses to also promote shopping, and have businesses set their own hours to open/close. The Polar Express movie will be shown on the 19th at the Fair Theater at 4 o'clock. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available. A couple of new businesses have opened downtown -a place selling burritos and a new boutique going in where another boutique had been but recently closed. Chamber after Hours was held at Rusty Rose, and it was a success. Economic Restructuring -not much going on at this time but will work in January.
