HomeMy WebLinkAbout03.07.16 Board MinutesMain Street Board Meeting 03-07-2015 Minutes The Main Street Program Coordinating Board met on March 7, 2016 in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. Chris Lefevre, President, called the meeting to order at 12:14 P.M. Members in attendance were Chris LeFevre, Dr. Michael Graves, Paul Drager, Frances Barrera, Cynthia Gregory, Andrea Glenn and Logan Pritchett. Other guests were Melinda Brown, Main Street Manager, Tori Huddleston, Special Projects Assistant, Teressa King, Councilmember and Janice Payne. The minutes of the February meeting were reviewed. Andrea moved to accept the minutes and Logan seconded this motion. The motion passed. Chris reviewed with the members the Vision of the Program which is to preserve the downtown area where citizens and visitors coming to Plainview can enjoy the hospitality while dining, shopping, living, experiencing the arts, entertainment and events. Also reviewed was the Mission of the program which will utilize the Four Point committee approach -organization, economic restructuring, design, and promotion along with the revitalization of the area, encourage reinvestment, enhance cultural diversity, preserve the historic integrity of the Main Street District, develop tourism, and recruit and retain businesses to provide a solid economic base for Plainview. ORGANIZATION COMMITTEE — A revised final copy of the Downtown Area map was provided to the members to review. A motion was made by Logan to accept this final copy as presented with an arrow added for direction while a second was made by Cynthia. Downtown Association did agree to help sponsor the map. The committee suggested putting the maps at Wayland, Chamber, hotels and downtown places. Goals: Cynthia said that she would like to see a Youth Board representative, a day honoring (and marketing) the antique shops downtown and a day that we honor the downtown businesses. The board agreed this were good projects. DESIGN COMMITTEE — Dr. Graves announced that he has recruited Janice Payne and Bradley Sells, The Broadway Brew to serve on the committee. They would like to see downtown become "a place to go to do business." PROMOTIONS COMMITTEE — Melinda reported that February 2nd Friday went well even if the movie was not well attended. The next upcoming 2nd Friday — March — will be an arts and craft night with several businesses having projects for families to do including stencil art on tiles, coloring contest, painting and other fun crafts. ARTWALK will be that next Saturday — March 12 — from 11 a.m. — 2 p.m. Andrea would like the committee to look at some branding opportunities for 2nd Friday, continue the success of 2nd Friday and Fall Festival, help with other downtown events such as Relay for Life and a big Christmas promotion activities. ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING COMMITTEE — Logan is in the process of putting a committee together. Melinda suggested the committee work on a business packet. Frances suggested the idea of creating a satellite campus downtown for Wayland or SPC. Chris adjourned the meeting at 12:54 P.M. Respectively submitted, r Melinda Brown
