HomeMy WebLinkAbout05.02.16 Board MinutesMain Street Board Meeting 05-02-2016 Minutes The Main Street Program Coordinating Board met on May 2, 2016 at the Fair Theater. Board Members present were Frances Barrera, Paul Drager, Michael Graves, Cynthia Gregory, and Diane Book. Also present was Main Street Coordinator -Melinda Brown, Tori Huddleston and Susan Blackerby. Melinda called the meeting to order at 12:15 P.M. The minutes from the April meeting had been previously reviewed by the Members via email. Paul made a motion to accept the minutes as presented, and Frances seconded the motion. Frances was sworn into office by Melinda. The Duty Affirmation was signed by Frances. The Vision and Mission Goals for Main Street Board was read by Melinda. Hot Grants - one application was submitted for a grant by Miniature Bull Riders, Inc. by Lillie Leal and Alysa Leal -Davis. The Tuff & Gunny Araujo MBR Invitational III will be held June 17 & 18 at the Plainview Rodeo Grounds. The request of funding is for $691. Paul made a motion to accept the application for a grant of $500. Cynthia and Dr. Graves, both, seconded the motion and there was no opposition. Organization Committee - Cynthia reported that Business Appreciation Days is planned for August or November -it had been decided that due to the August heat, it will be in November. She suggested to have a couple of high school students participate as representatives as their ideas, experience of volunteering and community service would be an advantageous asset. Also mentioned was the good turnout for the Prather/Martin Comedy Show held on April 23rd. with approximately 300 people in attendance. She would, also, like to have some type of musical program planned in the future. Design Committee - Melinda reported the Dallas Architecture and Engineering Firm with design plans will be in Plainview May 18th to get a view of the downtown area with which they will later present their ideas and suggestions to the Board. Businesses in the proposed area will be encouraged to clean up (weeds, trash, etc.) their store fronts before the Dallas firm arrives. Susan then made a suggestion of a newspaper column in the Plainview Daily Herald with information of Main Street events and happenings held downtown. This would be a once a month column, and Cynthia volunteered to write it. Promotion Committee - Melinda commented on the April, 2nd Friday - about 45 people attended the Walk with the Doc and PAWS. In May, Stephanie Boedecker will plan the Family Farm Night. It will include a movie, a Steve Buress Concert, a goat cheese presentation, and the Implement Dealers. GO BIG Event is the Mark Marley barbecue cook off bash supporting the American Cancer Society to be held at Kidsville on Friday, March 6th at 7:30 and on Saturday all day with a dance in the evening. Red, White & Moo is scheduled for July 2nd around the Courthouse area with a parade beginning at 10:00 and festivities at 10:30. The Masked Rider from Texas Tech and the Herdsman from West Texas A&M will be featured during the event.
