The rest of the meeting was set aside as a workshop to review and revamp the Vision and Mission Goals for this Coordinating Board. The object is to change the wording of the existing goals to 15 words, to one that is short and to the point, for anyone to understand what Board is trying to accomplish. After discussion of wording, Logan moved to accept these changes and Andrea seconded the motion. It will now be read as: The Main Street Program promotes a vibrant and historic downtown where everyone will enjoy Plainview hospitality. The Mission Statement was then discussed of changes-the Four Point Committee was removed and the wording shortened. It now reads as follows: The Main Street Program will utilize public and private efforts to encourage investment; enhance cultural diversity; preserve the architectural integrity of historic downtown; develop tourism; and promote businesses. Andrea made the motion and Cynthia seconded it to accept the Mission statement as rewritten and read. Motion passed. A discussion began of Community Transformation Strategies and ideas the Board could incorporate into getting the Main Street Program an integral part of the Plainview community. This is where the Four Point Committees comes into effect-Organization, Design, Promotion, and Economic Vitalty. Logan volunteered to be Project Task Leader on Economic Vitality Committee working on the Vacancy Ordinance. Ideas for Strategy #1 - cleanup and preservation-ideas shared was to have April & September as clean up months for businesses and downtown area( windows cleaned on storefronts, weeds removed, fix broken windows, etc.,and look into vacancy ordinances and apply) to focus on selected businesses ( a Pocket Park, for public restrooms, in place of Nina's, the Barber Shop, the Granada Theater) and to look at awnings for all businesses, greenery along Broadway Street, and appropriate signage. Strategy #2 discussion was on ways to entice citizens to utilize Main Street businesses and events: to make available a questionnaire for citizens to vocalize their wants/needs for the Program and to add new events that would invite different age groups to the already existing events. Logan adjourned the meeting at 2:22 P.M. Respectively submitted, Diane Book, Secretary
