HomeMy WebLinkAbout08.06.18 Board Minutes Main Street Board Meeting Minutes 08-06-2018 The Main Street Coordinating Board met on Monday, August 6, 2018 at noon in the Fair Theater. Members attending the meeting were Logan Pritchett, Jay Givens, Andrea Glenn, Cynthia Gregory, Kelly Alison, Tonya Keesee, John Tupin, Tori Huddleston and Melinda Brown. Jay called the meeting to order at 12:03 P.M. Jay said that there was a mistake with the Façade Grant on the Turpin application. The minutes said that the grant was passed, Jay corrected that to say that the grant had been tabled until a later date. Logan then moved that the minutes be approved, Tonya seconded, and the motion was carried. RELATIONSHIP ASSIGNMENTS : Kelly ask if anyone else was having any luck following up with property owners. She stated that she had not gotten any response from the round of letters she sent out to the owners whose property was vacant. Tonya suggested that everyone send out a similar letter and Kelly said she would email the one she sent to the other members, so they could modify and use it themselves. 4 POINT COMMITTEE SYSTEM: nd Promotions: Kelly ask who was in charge and Andrea pointed out that the 2 Sat. Committees were nd which would be Kelly and Andrea. Andrea gave a short synopsis about the success of 2 Sat and nd mentioned the backpack giveaway scheduled for the 2 Sat in August. Kelly spoke about needing volunteers for various task and Tonya said she would help with setting up the event. Kelly told her that Melissa Turpin was the Committee Lead for that task. Design: Tori said Stephanie from The Radiant Lily was in charge of the design committee and she was unable to make the meeting. Design was tabled until the Sept. meeting. Organization: Melinda talked about how much Tori is taking on as far as Main Street and other project organization and said that she would not be as available as in the past. Economic Restructuringt there might be a better chair than a Religion Professor. John Turpin said he would be happy to look into it and see what he could find out about market analysis and other task involved. nd In regard to Sept. meeting, Tori ask if we would rather do the 2 Monday or the Tues. after Labor Day. nd Andrea suggested the 2 Monday and everyone agreed. UPCOMING EVENTS Aug 10 Aug 21- Quarterly Coffee for PDA Tues 9am at the Brew, guest speaker is the TBAC to talk about special permits for specific businesses. Sept 4 Afterhours at Wayland Sept 8 Second Saturday Sept 15- Cowboy Days Parade th Sept 25 New date for PDA NEW BUSINESS: Melinda introduced Jeff Johnson, the Community Development Manager and person to talk to about Code enforcement. where code officers would target particular whole areas and clear out any code violations in that area in one big sweep. Jeff said that the new approach was to talk to the violators and try and educate and help them before issuing tickets. There was talk about planning and zoning and perhaps completely re-doing that system Jeff talked about the new pool and how it was a drastic improvement. Cynthia ask about the playground equipment and parking and expressed some of the reservations the neighborhood was talking to her about. Kelly ask about the issue with Economic Development as concerned with code enforcement. She asks about a way to encourage people not to use downtown storefronts for storage and about codes that would keep people for investing in downtown. Jeff mentioned so as not to put new pressure on the struggling system. John Turpin said that even if the city would allow certain business to be able to act within existing codes that they would still face problems with insurance. Jeff said that people should feel free to just come and talk to code enforcement and stressed that communication was really the key to working these problems out. He said that he was all about Economic Development and welcomed any suggestions that would spur that on. Melinda mentioned that his phone number was 806-296-1120 OTHER NEW BUSINESS: FAÇADE IMPROVEMENT INCENTIVE GRANT Melinda suggested some real restructuring and suggested we all take a closer look at the other details. Kelly suggested we wait until at least October. Andrea suggested we take a good look at it as a group in September. Jay adjourned the meeting 12:59pm Respectively Submitted, Kelly Alison Secretary
