CANCELING ELECTION
RESOLUTION NO. R21-530
A RESOLUTION CANCELING THE NOVEMBER 2, 2021 SPECIAL
ELECTION FOR COUNCIL MEMBER FOR DISTRICT 7.
WHEREAS, on August 24, 2021 at a regular City Council meeting, Patra
Moreno, Council Member for District No. 7, tendered her written resignation of her
office to the City Council and it was accepted by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Article II, Section 2.06(c) of the Plainview
City Charter, the City Council called a special election within 120 days of the
creation of a vacancy to fill the unexpired term of that office; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with state law and the Plainview City Charter,
the special election was ordered for November 2, 2021 for the purpose of electing
a Council Member for District 7 to serve on the City Council in the City of Plainview;
and
WHEREAS, the city secretary has certified in writing that no candidates
have filed to run for said election; and
WHEREAS, the filing deadlines for placement on the ballot and declaration
of write-in candidacy have passed; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS THAT:
Section 1
Due to fact that no candidate has filed to run for the vacant Council seat for
Council Member for District 7, the City Council declares that such seat is vacant
and shall remain vacant until such time as the City Secretary prepares the
necessary documents for the City Council to call for another special election to fill
such vacancy.
Section 2
The City Secretary is directed to post a copy of this resolution at each
designated polling place on November 2, 2021.
