PASSED ANDAPPROVfD this the llth day of January, 1983 ~ F,,_LDT RRUBER, Mayor ATTEST: k~L'i'~F. S. DODSCN, City. Clerk TO: FROM: SUBJECT: DATE: John Hatchel, City *Manager Hugh Anderson, Chief of Police Request for Revenue Sharing Funds 01-04-83 As discussed previously, funds are being requested to purchase necessary equipment for the conversion from the old fleet to the ~ew. In researching the items necessary, such as vertical shotgun locks, an additional safety shield, and an additional light bar, there have been some increases in prices since our last inquiries and we have determined shipping costs as close as possible. In addition, the current siren speakers being used in investigators' cars are too large and will not fit in the 1983 Plymouth Gran Fury police units. We are researching available model speakers which could fit behind the grill or under the hood, but have not received any encouraging information. We have esti- mated the cost of these six (6) units' not to exceed $210.00 each (a similar model price, however, still not acceptable). Couple the cost of the speakers and the previously discussed funds for the shotgun locks, shield, visibar, shipping and other costs, and the additional $500.00 to purchase the Motorola hand held radio, and the requested amount comes to $3,900.00. With some smart purchasing (vendor selection and bargaining) we should be able to hold the cost to less than that amount. We have already acquired some indications of price reductions from some vendors, depending upon the order we place with them. If we had purchased the Fords, we would be experiencing a greater burden for police eqhipment, not to mention the additional cost of the fleet itself. Hugh C ~nderson, III, Chief of Police
