HomeMy WebLinkAboutR07-171RESOLUTION R07-171 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF A GRANT APPLICATION WITH THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY FOR AN ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT; AUTHORIZING H. GARY GLASS TO ACT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW IN ALL MATTERS RELATING TO THE APPLICATION; AND PLEDGING THAT IF A GRANT IS RECEIVED, THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW WILL COMPLY WITH THE GRANT REQUIREMENTS OF THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY AND OF THE GRANT PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the United States Department of Homeland Security has available funding entitled Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to enhance their abilities with respect to fire and fire related hazards; and WHEREAS, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program offers funding to fire departments for improved equipment and apparatus; and WHEREAS, the City of Plainview in the State of Texas is qualified to apply for grant funds under the Request for Applications; and WHEREAS, the City of Plainview and surrounding area is in need of a Brush/ Attack Apparatus which will supply maximum efficiency with minimum man power in fighting fires located in areas which do not readily have access to water; and WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Plainview will benefit by the acquisition of additional fire fighting equipment; and WHEREAS, the City of Plainview desires to obtain equipment to provide the safest protection for the City's firefighters as well as use the equipment for support of all the volunteer departments and communities in our area; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the approval for application for such grant for the benefit of firefighters would promote the public health, safety and general welfare of the City of Plainview citizens. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW THAT: R07-171 Page 1 of 3 G SECTION I H. Gary Glass, Fire Chief, is authorized to submit an application requesting grant funding under the United States Department of Homeland Security's Request for Application of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and act on behalf of the City of Plainview in all matters related to the grant application and any subsequent grant contract and grant project that may result. SECTION II If the project is funded, the City of Plainview will comply with the grant requirements of the United States Department of Homeland Security, specifically for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. SECTION III The grant funds and any grant-funded equipment and facilities will be used only for the purposes for which they are intended under this grant. SECTION IV The City of Plainview is prepared to provide a Ten Per Cent (10%) match toward the purchase of this piece of equipment. Said funding is available in the annual budget of the City of Plainview Fire Department and is not to exceed $17,000.00. PASSED AND APPROVED this 13th da rLof March, 2007. ~ / ,-~ n C.
