A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PLAINVIEW, TEXAS REQUESTING THE CONTINUATION OF
FUNDING FOR THE RAPE CRISIS CENTER WHICH OFFERS
ASSISTANCE TO THE CITIZENS OF PLAINVIEW AND HALE
COUNTY AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR ON BEHALF OF
THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW TO EXECUTE A GRANT
APPLICATION.
WHEREAS, the crime of rape is one of the fastest growing
crimes indexed by the FBE Uniform Crime Reports and has among the lowest
portions of cases closed by reason of rest; and
WHEREAS, due to concerned citizens in the City of Plainview, who
have banded together to organize a Hale County Rape Crisis Center to provide
confidential crisis intervention and supportive counseling to victims of rape,
and other sexual crimes and to increase the public awareness about the crime
and crisis of rape, and to increase the reporting of rape, and the prosecution
rate of the crime of rap.e; and
WHEREAS, funding is now available through a Criminal Justice Grant
for the continuation of the fUll-time office of the Crisis Center in our
community; and
WHEREAS, in order to receive this funding, the. City of Plainview must serve as
conduit for the grant and assume certain responsibilities for grant administration.;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and C,ity Council of the City
of Plain¢i.ew'~~,Texas that the City of Plainview join with these concerned citizens
involved in the Hale County Rape Crisis Center and that the Mayor be authorized
to execute the grant application for this continuation of funding through the
Criminal Justice Division to provide these services to the citizens through
Hale County.
