A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PLAINVIEW, TEXAS DENYING THE REQUEST FOR THE EXPEbDITURE OF
$24,000 OF HOTEL/MOTEL TAX RESERVE FUNDS FOR OUTDOOR
ADVERTISING SIGNS.
?~REAS, on June 24, 1986, in a regularly scheduled Council
meeting, the City Council heard a request frcra Jim Platt, Manager of the
Holiday Inn, for the expenditure of $24,000 of Hotel/Motel Tax Reserve
Funds for outdoor advertising signs; and
WHEREAS, the Plainview Chamber of Con~-t~terce Convention and Tourism
Conmlittee had previously reconmended that the proposal be funded; and
WHEREAS, the City Council at the June 24, 1986 meeting tabled the
proposal for further study; and
WHEREAS, Tut Ta~ater, Chairman of the Plainview Chamber of
Conmerce Convention and Tourism CormIittee notified the City in a letter
dated July 15, 1986, that the Chamber of Comnerce was withdrawing its
reco~t~¥tendation to allocate the funding of $24,000 for outdoor
advertising signs, so that the proposal could be studied more carefully;
and
WHEREAS, a copy of the letter written by Tut Tawwater is attached
and made a permanent part of this resolution:
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the
City of Plainview, Texas that the request for the expenditure of $24,000
of Hotel/Motel Tax Reserve Funds for outdoor advertising is hereby
denied.
BE IT FURSlqF~ RESOLVED that when the Chamber of Conmerce ccxr~letes
its analysis of outdoor advertising, the City will reconsider a request
for assistance at that tim~, but said reconsideration by no means
obligates the City Council to accept the Chamber of Conlnerce
recoamendation or other reconanendations at that time.
