A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY PLAINVIEW, TEXAS
IN SUPPORT OF EFFORTS TO SECURE THE FEDERAL
GOVERNMENT'S SUPER CONDUCTING SUPER COLLIDER
PROJECT FOR THE REGION.
WHEREAS, there is a possibility of
Government,s Superconducting Super Collider
Amarillo, Lubbock Region; and
WHEREAS, the Collider is a necessary project for the
advancement of science and human kind; and
WHEREAS, this project will provide jobs for our people and
will help the Economic Development of our area;
WHEREAS, this project would have 3,000 permanent employees
including scientist and engineers, and have visitors from all over
the world; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Government would spend $3 to $6 billion
to construct the project and over $200 million annually to operate
such; and
WHEREAS, the City of Plainview would benefit greatly from the
construction of the project near Lubbock or Amarillo; and
WHEREAS, the City of Plainview believes such economic
development would be good for our citizens and the project
beneficial to the entire Region.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Plainview, Texas, that the City of Plainview does go on record
supporting said project and pledges our cooperation and assistance
whenever practical and deemed appropriate.

Plainview City Council on April 23, 1987.
