R87-248 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS CALLING FOR THE ADOPTION OF A TIMETABLE CALLING FOR ANELECTION ON THE IMPOSITION OF AN ADDITIONAL ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT (1/2%) LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX TO BE USED FOR PROPERTY TAX REDUCTION. WHEREAS, the State Legislature has authorized municipalities to impose an additional one-half of one percent (1/2%) local sales and use tax; and WHEREAS, the additional one-half of one percent (1/2%) local sales and use tax is to be used for property tax reduction; and WHEREAS, the Plainview City Council has expressed its intent to call for an election for the imposition of the one-half of one percent (1/2%) local sales and use tax; and WHEREAS, the Plainview City Council has determined a timetable for said election. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Plainview, Texas, that a one-half of one percent (1/2%) local sales and use tax election, to be used for property tax reduction, will follow the timetable as set out below: June 23, 1987 -Election. First reading of Ordinance calling for Special July 14, 1987 -Election. Second and final reading, calling for Special July 15, 1987 - Posting on City Hall bulletin board of a call for a Special Election. July 24, 1987 - Publication of Ordinance in Spanish and English in the Plainview Daily Herald. · July 31, 987 - Second publication of Ordinance, in Spanish and English, in the Plaiview Daily Herald. August 8, 1987 - Special Election. Augst 11, 1987 - If tax passes, Resolution adopted by the City Council certifying results and copy of said Resolution sent to the State Comptroller. O63 January 1, 1988 - Tax will first be imposed if the election passes.
