A RESOLUTION OF THE PLAINVIEW CITY COUNCIL APPROVING THE
SUBMISSION OF A GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE TEXAS WORKFORCE
COMMISSION REQUESTING FUNDING TO SUPPORT THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ADULT TECHNOLOGY TRAINING CENTER
TO SERVE THE NEEDS OF RESIDENTS OF THE SOUTH PLAINS
WITH LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY.
WHEREAS, the Texas Workforce Commission has issued a Request for Proposals to
fund an Adult Technology Training Center wherein individuals with Limited English
Proficiency (LEP) can obtain English as a Second Language (ESL) Instruction, General
Education Development (GED), Adult Basic Education, Technology Instruction and
Occupational Skills Training to prepare them to find employment in occupations and
career paths in high demand occupations; and
WHEREAS, WorkSource of the South Plains and Motivation, Education and Training
(MET) have collaborated to submit a proposal for funding an adult training program to
be located in the City of Plainview to meet the needs of the LEP population and of
employers in the area; and
WHEREAS, the Plainview Independent School District has committed to providing a
facility wherein the Plainview Adult Technology Training Center can be established; and
WHEREAS, area training providers, including Amarillo College, South Plains College,
Wayland Baptist University and the Region 17 Education Service Center, have
committed to work together to facilitate the delivery of educational and workforce
training services to the LEP population of this city.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PLAINVIEW that the Council strongly supports the proposal to be submitted to the
Texas Workforce Commission by WorkSource of the South Plains and MET requesting
funding to establish the PLAINVIEW ADULT TECHNOLOGY CENTER.
