R82-494 oo 6S' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN AND MAKE PAYMENT TO HALE COUNTY SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT TO BE APPLIED TO THE DEDICATION CEREMONY OF THE UPPER AND LOWER RUNNING DRAW WATER SHED PROJECT. WHEREAS, in 1960, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Soil Conservation Service proposed the construction of water retention structures along the Upper and Lower Running Water Draw water shed for flood protection of communities located on and along this water way; and WHEREAS, during the last twelve years, seven (7) water retention structures have been built, with one being located in New Mexico, six (6) in Texas which includes three (3) in Hale County at a total cost in access of $20 million; and WHEREAS, by the construction of these water retention structures, Plainview coUld receive an estimated 65% to 70% flood protection; and WHEREAS, on September 29, 1982 in Plainview, Texas, the U.S. Department of Agruculture and Soil Conservation Service, Hale County Soil and Water Conservation District and all participants in the Upper and Lower Running Water Draw water shed project will have a celebration and dedication clumunating twenty-two years of work: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY the Mayor and City Council of the City of Plainview that the City be authorized to participation in this dedication and make a payment in the amount of $25.00 to be applied toward the planning of this event and urge each and every citizen of our community to recognize the benefits which will be received from this project.
